Geelong Legend in Hospital
It’s always sad when a Legend is feeling a bit crook, especially at a time when most of us are celebrating the festive season.
Geelong legend, Peter Pianto, has struck a bit of a rough patch recently & I am sure that every Footy fan around the World sends their best wishes to him after he had his leg and part of his hip amputated in the days leading up to Christmas.
The 78 year old dual Geelong Premiership player endured the 6 hour operation as a result of cancer, but is recovering as well as can be expected.

Peter played 121 games & kicked 144 goals for the Cats, combining with Neil Trezise to form one of the most lethal roving combinations in the V.F.L. /A.F.L. between 1951 & 1957.

Recruited from Eaglehawk, he played in the 1951 & 1952 Geelong Premiership sides, won the 1953 Geelong Best & Fairest award, and was selected to wear the ‘Big V’ nine times.

At the early age of 28 he retired to coach Coragulac and later was captain-coach of Claremont in the W.A.F.L.

He was also coach of Geelong between 1966 and 1970, including the losing 1967 Grand Final team.

Small, brilliant & fast, Peter was selected in the ‘Italian Team of the Century’ along with other notables such as Sergio Silvagni, Ron Barassi (Snr.) & Robert DiPierdomenico.
