Town imports a fair dinkum Aussie game
Its an Australian export that's up there with Fosters and Rolf Harris.

But it's one that might be less familiar to many people in Hartlepool. Aussie Scott Hind, who set up Hartlepool's first Australian Rules football team, today called for the sporting folk of Hartlepool to try their hand at something new.
Since founding the Hartlepool Dockers three years ago, Hind has made it his mission to spread the word about Aussie Rules across the town.
With the new season imminent he is desperate to land some new recruits and is also on the look out for a major sponsor.
The Sydney born 37 year old wants to get more Poolies involved and is welcoming newcomers to have a bash at the sport.

"It's a summer sport and it's like a combination of rugby ant soccer," said Hind.
"The ball is like a rugby ball but made of leather and you score by kicking between posts.
"It's more athletic than rugby and you need more bulk than you do to play football.
But there are positions where smaller, quicker guys are needed too."

Hind made the move up the Al9 three years ago after quitting the captaincy of the Middlesbrough Hawks ARFC to fill the vacancy in Hartlepool by setting up a team.
Although he has witnessed a vast improvement in the quality of Aussie rules here in Hartlepool, he is in desperate need of a sponsor so that the club can kick on.

Scott has been busy contacting companies around Hartlepool with the view to setting up a small sponsorship deal that would help his team with entry fees for the North-East Division of the Aussie Rules UK league.

The Dockers start their season in a matter of weeks with the competition running throughout the summer months.
They battle it out with five othe teams from around the North East area. Alter a warm up tournament in Newcastle their campaign kick off with a game in Sunderland on May 16.

The Dockers have established a strong link with West Hartlepool Rugby Club, sharing a ground and facilities and the services of a one or two players.

Indeed, one of West's star players, former England youth international Aaron Myers, is their captain.

"I contacted local rugby clubs ant now have a few West guys playing for me and I also have a few lads from BB Old Boys," added Hind.

"Rugby players usually take to Aussie Rules well. and I'm also looking for football players but have not managed to make contact with any local clubs yet. So any footballers are invited to give it a go."

Hind is also looking to find the stars of tomorrow by running Junior clinics over the summer.
